In collaboration with Thompson & Litton Architects, Wise, VA, an abandoned high school and junior high were revitalized to create the Appalachian School of Law and Law Library. The Vision Group was challenged by the Board of Directors to capture the peacefulness of the mountain setting, a rigorous intellectual environment and the industrial approach of the architecture.

From the linoleum floors that create the monolithic look of ancient stone, to the lobby lighting system; design elements were created with a traditional “flavor” applicable to a law school. Appellate and moot courts, as well as classrooms and public areas, are designed for seamless technology integration, befitting a 21st century educational facility. The Vision Group’s scope of interior layout, lighting, finishes and furnishings coupled with a seventy percent demolition of existing walls made this adaptive reuse both challenging and rewarding..
